Basil Smith, otherwise known as Smitty, opened a machine shop in 1956 in his garage. He called it Rock-ett Products. He was one of the original off-road enthusiasts, so he concentrated on developing drive equipment for the 4-wheeler fan. He hired his son, Tom, and renamed the company to Smittybilt a few years later. As Tom had been exposed to the 4WD lifestyle all of his life, he was interested in building products that were innovative and geared toward the off-road industry. One of his original products was the Nerf Bar sidestep and tubular bumpers for the Jeep.
Over time, Tom has helped to create many products bearing the Smittybilt name, and Smittybilt has gone on to offer over 2,000 parts and services for the truck and SUV market. They stay up on the latest trends, so you get products that have been designed with current technology and design in mind. Some of their products include front and rear bumpers, side steps, hydration packs for you, Katch-All seat covers and spare tire relocation kits.
